Introduction

 

Electrical installation applies to industries, shopping malls, offices, domestic premises, etc. They are subject to compliance with the Electricity Act, relevant Regulations, and Code of Practices, among other things. Practitioners, operators, and owners of these installations must have the necessary knowledge of the laws and design principles of the installations so that appropriate preventive measures can be instituted at the design stage to avoid future unnecessary electrical accidents. The purpose of this course is to provide the learners with an understanding of Singapore's electrical installation, electrical Safety, Theory and practical knowledge of installation testing, identify the installation non-compliances for safe electrical work. Upon completing this course, Learners can work more efficiently with better Theory & Practical knowledge when doing unit testing, rewiring/A&A work and all types of LV electrical installation works.

 

Objective: 

This one-day course covers an understanding of the Electricity Act & Regulations, regulatory requirements, the importance of the Code of Practices, basic principles of Singapore's electrical installation basics & its applications, and relevance. There will be a Continuous assessment in the form of random quizzes. Hands on practices and case studies to strengthen the understanding of what has been taught in class.

This course is suitable for all those with some basic knowledge who are electricians, electrical technicians, supervisors, etc., dealing with electrical installation, construction, operation, maintenance work, etc, especially those involves in testing of installation.

The course is also suitable for those interested in knowing about Singapore's Electrical Installation, structure & owners of the electrical installation, Contractors, etc., to attend and understand the regulatory requirements, Installation principles and testing. 

Some of them do Electrical installation work but need to figure out why and how. This course provides a better understanding and hands on experience.

 

What Participants Will Learn

This course is crafted to apply the principles of Singapore's electrical installation work, testing, and identify an installation non compliances. Most importantly, at the end of this course, participants will gain confidence and acquire the necessary Theory & practical knowledge in electrical installation principles, proper testing methods as per Singapore Standard (SS 638), why the installation should be within specific guidelines, how to carry out the work in the correct manner and thus Learners can work more efficiently with better practical knowledge in the respective job scope.

4)   Basic understanding of regulatory requirements, Electricity Act, regulations, and code of   practices

5)   Electrical Wiring system, Earthing, cable colour codes

6)   Electrical controlled goods and safety mark

7)   Types of switchboards/DBs and their components, Overview of different     types of circuit breakers (e.g., MCCB, MCB, RCCB, etc.)

8)   Various types of protections.

Practical

     9)  Measuring Instruments & Installation Testing

    10) Understand the testing and commissioning of the installation.

    11) Hands on Practice on testing sequence (ref: SS638, section 6)
