Introduction

Electrical cables, wires, machinery, tools and appliances are commonly deployed and used in temporary electrical supply for various construction worksites, trade-fairs, mini-fairs and exhibition sites. These could pose significant workplace health and safety risks as well as risk of fire.  In this regard, SS650 Part I and Part 2 are the Singapore Standards set up to help protect human from potential electrical hazards. The understanding and implementing the safety measures in SS650 could mitigate/prevent accidents, fire, injuries, and even fatalities at these workplaces.

The Electricity and Workplace Safety Health and Safety regulatory frameworks stipulate, inter alia, the need for a temporary low voltage electrical installation at these workplaces to comply with the SS650 Part 1 and Part 2 requirements so that the electrical installation is safe to use. The Regulator can take the responsible party to task for non-compliance of the laws.
